Northfield State Fair at Clarkson Park, 1950 Willow Road.
September 15th, 2006 by FloraI saw an article in today’s online Winnetka Talk about the Northfield, IL State Fair to be held 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 16th, 2006 at Clarkson Park, 1950 Willow Road. That’s this coming Saturday. The Fair sounded like it would be kind of fun. So, I looked up references to it on the internet, and found a pdf document from the Northfield Park District that said pretty much the same thing as the Pioneer Press article did.
The Lion’s Club will be selling food. There will be a pie baking contest, a rib fest judging, bingo, a star walk, a climbing wall, music by 215 West, fireworks at dusk, and a DJ with music and dancing games. Beer will be sold during the same time that the climbing wall is available. Is that a good choice? Ha!
The pie baking contest is entry free if you sign up ahead of time, and $5 the day of the event. There are these categories: best cream, best fruit, flakiest crust and Best Holiday. The rib contest cost $0 for residents and $12 for non-residents. You have to supply your own grill, and can not sell the ribs. You must supply your own table, and may begin as early as 3 p.m.
You can find out more about the event by calling (847) 446-4428.

Who Moved My Big Cheese?
September 14th, 2006 by FloraRobert Manor, A Chicago Tribune Staff Writer, had an article in today’s online Chicago Tribune about Irene Rosenfeld, rated 11th most powerful woman in business by Fortune Magazine this year and new CEO of Northfield, IL based Kraft Foods, Inc. He said that Ms. Rosenfeld made a lot of changes in the staff that reports directly to her. He reported on speculations as to why the particular changes that were made did occur. Some people thought that the changes had to do with the expected spin-off of Kraft from Altria Group, Inc., its parent company, while others thought Irene Rosenfeld was just arranging her management staff after coming to the helm in June. I myself would think it was probably the latter if Fortune Magazine thinks she is the 11th most powerful woman in the world (unless, of course, all the women are behind all the men.)
Apparently Kraft suffers competition both from the low end with store products and from the high end with health conscious products. Some of Kraft’s current popular products include Oscar Mayer meats, Oreo cookies and Maxwell House coffee. It is expected that the new president may introduce new products and products in new areas. A focus on new organic and/or health conscious products was deemed possible.
There was another article about Ms. Rosenfeld by Cheryl V. Jackson in today’s online Sun Times. Speculations were similar in both articles. Ms. Jackson pointed out some additional popular Kraft brands such as Nabisco, Kool-Aid, and Jell-O brands.
