Summer and Fall Emeritus Learning Programs

August 14th, 2006

“Life long learning” is one of the mantra’s of Oakton Community College. From their kids’ college program for children to their emeritus program for older adults, Oakton follows it own dictates. The junior college serves the communities of Northbrook, IL; Northfield, IL; Glenview, IL and Wilmette, IL as well as other North Suburban areas.

This summer Oakton has an emeritus program called “Humanities Treasures” in which art and works of literature are studied. The program is organized and coordinated by Ethel Mittenthal. Classes are held at several locations including the Wilmette Senior Center at 3000 Glenview Rd. in Wilmette, IL; the Northbrook Park District Senior Center at 3323 Walters Ave. in Northbrook, IL; The North Shore Senior Center at 101 Northfield Rd. in Northfield, IL: and the Glenview Public Library at 1930 Glenview Rd. in Glenview, IL. There is no charge for the classes.

This summer Oakton also has “for pay” classes in music, art and film at the Covenant Village at 2625 Techy Road in Northbrook, IL and at the Classic Residence by Hyatt at 2500 Indigo Lane in Glenview, IL. The emeritus program has been in existence for quite awhile now, and is sure to have some fall offerings. If you want to get in on the learning action, call Oakton at (847) 635-1600, and ask for the Alliance for Lifelong Learning to found out more about the autumn programs.
